What-The-Dickens

The book I read this quarter is What-The-Dickens by Greg Gaguire. The main setting was in the narrator's sister's house. In this book there are two main characters. One is orphaned, not human and arrogant to the world. The other is human, has knowledge of the world and is 23. The central conflict is the narrator Gagr is taking care of his nephew and two nieces through a hurricaneand is trying to keep them together, while police officers try to take them away. With What-The-Dickens he's tring to find his place in the world and conqures the challenges that are thrown at him, like the one when he is trying to complete this route for a friend who is now dying. The central theme would be "what may not seem real can surprise you."

The central theme is "what may not seem real can surprise you." Gage thought toothfarires or so called "skiberee" were not real but got a huge surprise when he found What-The-Dickens friend Pepperwith a punctured wing. Gage was sleeping until he heard a cry of pain. He found Pepper clutching her wing and thruogh interrigation found out that she was a toothfairy. These things represents the central theme by people normally thought they were myths until Gage found one to his surprise. The theme could be applied in real life by people not thinking that just because you don't believe something exsists doesn't mean that they don't. Dont be surprised if what you don't believe exsists lies right in front of you.

The proagnoist's in this story is both What-The-Dickens and Gage. They are both curious about the unknown. A quote that shows the personality of What-The-Dickens is:

"But how?" What-The-Dickens asked.

"I don't know! Stop asking questions!" Pepper growled. The main struggles were that What-The-Dickens was doing peppers work because she was caged and dying, in reality Gage is trying to keeps his neices and nephew safe from the hurricane and together when the police trying to take them away from him. Threw out the novel Gage is telling a story or a memory, which he doesn't know which is true, while trying to survive a big hurricane with his sister's kids. The main characters change in the story by What-The-Dickens was unsure and scared of the world, now he knows nearly everything about himself and can't wait to see what else out there. Gage is troubled by the storm and is not liking the situation with the kids. But now he's loving then even more than before, and is hanging in there and is doing okay.

Would I recamend this book to high school kids? No I wouldn't because I seriously do not think they would be interested. Middle school, yes.
"Or toothfaires I should say." Gage corrected himself. I like the dialogue. I thought it was coolbecause while they went back to the memory they were still talking in realit, then slipped into the memory. Overall I think the word choice needs to be changed. I wasn't really connected to What-The-Dickens. My overall opinion on this novel is very good with a great amount of action and minor twists.
